Flore-Alpe, the alpine botanical garden at Champex-Lac, has joined the DBGI network, adding the initiative’s first botanical collection dedicated specifically to alpine plants.
Situated at approximately 1,500 metres in the Valais Alps, Flore-Alpe maintains more than 4,000 plant species from the local flora and mountain regions around the world. Its concentrated alpine collection gives DBGI access to plants adapted to a wide range of high-elevation environments and complements the network’s lower-altitude gardens.
Christophe Randin, executive director of Flore-Alpe, helped shape the collaboration and make the garden accessible for sampling.
A first sampling campaign began on 20 May 2025, when members of the Plant Eco-Metabolomics Group brought DBGI’s standardised collection and traceability workflows to the alpine beds. By adding a dedicated high-elevation collection, the partnership broadens the environmental and taxonomic range represented across the DBGI network.
