Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew joins the DBGI network

Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew has formally joined the DBGI network, extending the initiative beyond continental Europe and bringing one of the world’s leading botanical institutions into the collaboration. The partnership began on 22 September 2025 with a DBGI sampling campaign across Kew’s living collections. Read about the three-week Kew sampling campaign.

Alongside its exceptional living collections, Kew brings expertise in botanical collection management, phytochemistry and science policy. China Williams, Senior Science Officer in Kew’s Conservation Policy team, is helping DBGI develop responsible approaches to plant-material transfer and data stewardship as the network expands internationally.

This work supports compliance with international access and benefit-sharing frameworks, including the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol .
